Carnival Headdress in Pink & Black Stripes ~ ‘Pippa’

‘Pippa’ is my largest ever headdress and one I had a tremendous amount of fun creating. I made the base in the shape of a circus tent with long side fringe ‘curtains’. The base is covered with a fun hot pink metallic and black velvet striped fabric which I have covered in beautiful pieces: appliques, black filigree, sequins, stone sequins, and flowers! ‘Pippa’ is definitely a carnival show-stopper for someone who really wants to stand out!

The heavily embellished center peacock applique has a beautiful fan of pale and hot pink sequin ‘feathers’!

Rarely do I match the back of the headdresses with the front (usually I just finish them in a matching colored felt or velvet) but the size of ‘Pippa’ meant the back would get seen from afar, so I matched it with the same fabric, a lace trim, and a sequin applique at the base, same as at the front. I also created a back wire to help support and stabilize the headdress, and it is just thin enough to pin through plenty of bobby pins.
